Pressing the action button in sync with the animations increases damage output while reducing incoming damage. Along with timed hits, combat features multi-character combo attacks, boosting, and a strategic « locks » system offering options to play with different damage types in order to hinder enemies while they are channeling powerful attacks or spells, all in an immersive take on the genre; no random encounters, no transitions to separate battlefields, and no grinding.

Swim, climb, vault, jump off or hoist up ledges as you traverse seamlessly through the world with a navigation system based on platformer expertise that breaks free from the classic bound-to-the-grid tileset movement.

Dozens of original characters and story arcs will take you on a captivating journey. Sometimes epic, sometimes silly, and other times emotional, Sea of Stars does its RPG duty of exploring classic themes of adventure and friendship, while also being chock-full of the unexpected twists and events you’d expect from a Sabotage production.
A world you can touch
There are many ways to hang out in the world of Sea of Stars if you feel the need for a change of pace in your adventures. Sailing, cooking, fishing, stopping by a tavern to listen to a song or play the infamous tabletop game known as « Wheels »…..every system has been designed to deliver an experience that pays respect to retro classics, while rethinking in some areas to offer a smooth and modernized experience.
Dynamic Lighting
Lighting is 100% rendered dynamically, meaning things such as day and night cycles, weather effects, eclipses or blood moons all happen seamlessly, recoloring the world and faithfully rendering shadows.
As fully fledged Solstice Warriors you will eventually get full control over the sun and moon, so whether you just want to chill in your favorite area in the ambiance of your choice, need to solve a complex puzzle related to lighting, or there is a magic door that only opens at midnight, the control will be yours, all in real time.
Playable Characters
Valere
Lunar Monk
Born on the Winter Solstice, Valere shows curiosity and balance. Gifted with Lunar Magic, she can absorb Eclipse Orbs in her moonstaff to dish out massive damage.
Trained in the martial ways of the monk, she walks the path of the Guardian Goddess Luana. The Elder Mist sees great potential in her, believing she might one day be the one to “create paths on water”.
Zale
Solar Blade Dancer
Born on the Summer Solstice, Zale is optimistic and bold. He wields a sunblade, through which he can absorb Eclipse Orbs whenever his attacks need an extra kick.
As a blade-dancer, he walks the path of the Guardian God Solen. The Elder Mist foretold that, in order to find his light and achieve his full potential, he will first need to “stare at the night inside of him”.
Garl
Warrior Cook
Garl was born a regular kid devoid of any special powers. Along with his training as a cook, his innately strong constitution makes him a capable defensive fighter, giving him the tools to support his two best friends in their Solstice Warrior duties.
The Elder Mist saw something peculiar in the stars about him, as it seemed his heart just may be warm enough to “soothe a long tormented soul”.
Seraï
Portal Assassin
A mysterious assassin and master of poisons with allegiances and origins unknown, Seraï’s agility and precision allow her to tear away at the very fabric of reality with her daggers to teleport around the battlefield.
While Seraï is definitely on our heroes’ side, very little is known about what drives her motivations…
Resh'an
Immortal Alchemist
A legendary alchemist who leveraged his craft to achieve immortality. In ages past, Resh’an created his own alchemy vial by wrangling the ethereal Sands of Time.
Should fate play in his favor, he may yet find a way to peer back through time at last, for he craves a deeper understanding of the Age of the Ovates…
B'st
Living Glass Golem
One of the lost souls left behind in the wake of The Fleshmancer’s wicked experiments, B’st remained trapped in a dome for centuries for fear of his gaseous form dissipating into nothingness.
B’st’s unbreakable will qualified as the missing ingredient for Resh’an to finally achieve the creation of Living Glass. Now given physical form again, B’st inhabits his Living Glass Golem and is ready to join the fight to reclaim his world.

The Dawn of Equinox update for Sea of Stars was also released for free in 2024, introducing local co-op, a speedrunner-friendly relic, a full balancing overhaul, a new cinematic, and various quality-of-life improvements. This version is now the default across all digital storefronts.
As the studio shifts its focus to our third game, there are currently no additional updates or DLCs planned for Sea of Stars.
