Why go the Kickstarter route?
Let us be direct : it would be risky to base the funding of an ambitious project like this on Kickstarter alone. As always, we want to remain fully transparent with anyone who wants to support us : 16 people over 3 years is very intense budget-wise for a small studio. Taking the bulk of risks ourselves by reinvesting the gains from The Messenger, we still need to make sure we have as many resources as we can to create a game that matches our vision, and avoid heartbreaking compromises that would make it less than what it could be.
Of course, it is now common knowledge that the value of a Kickstarter goes way beyond the amount of money raised during the campaign; it also makes for the best early feedback loop a game studio can hope for. We are committed to this project; all we ask for is confirmation that Sea of Stars is something you want to play.
